As a general rule, choose a finish that contrasts with the surface where your numbers will be mounted. Strong contrast helps your address stand out and makes it easier to read from the street. Most finishes will look great when paired with the right level of contrast. Darker finishes, such as Matte Black and Dark Bronze, tend to stand out clearly on lighter surfaces. Lighter finishes, such as White or Silver, provide excellent contrast when mounted on darker surfaces. Metallic finishes like Bronze, Brass, Copper, and Graphite Grey offer a balanced option. Their subtle metallic depth allows them to complement a wide range of exterior materials while still remaining visible from a distance. You may also wish to consider the overall color palette of your home. Some homeowners prefer a finish that complements existing exterior accents, while others choose contrast to create a more defined architectural detail. If you’re still unsure, choose the finish that you personally enjoy the most. It’s the one you’ll appreciate every time you arrive home.

Ferosa house numbers are available in nine sizes: 4″, 5″, 6″, 7″, 8″, 10″, and 12″, 15", & 18". 4″ numbers are typically used when installation space is limited or when a subtle look is preferred. 5″ numbers are similar in size to many traditional address numbers and work well on most homes without taking up much space. For many homes, slightly larger numbers provide better visibility from the street while creating a balanced, well proportioned look on the exterior. Our most popular sizes are 6″ and 8″, offering excellent readability while complementing a wide range of architectural styles. For those who want a more bold architectural statement, we also offer large 10" and 12″ numbers. Our 15" and 18" numbers are often used for commercial, industrial, and multi unit residential buildings. If you require something larger, we also produce custom sizes beyond 18″. Please contact us for a quote.

The best size depends on three main factors: available space, visibility from the street, and the look you prefer. 1. Available mounting space Start by measuring the area where you plan to install your numbers. Ferosa numbers can be mounted horizontally or vertically, so consider which orientation works best for your space. If space is limited, our downloadable sizing templates can help you determine which size will fit properly. If you would like to know the exact width of your full address including spacing (for example, 4721), feel free to contact us and we will gladly provide the precise measurement. 2. Visibility from the street The farther your home sits from the street, the larger your numbers should be for easy readability. Clearly visible address numbers help delivery drivers, visitors, and emergency responders quickly locate your home. 3. The look you prefer Finally, choose a size that complements your home and personal style. Many homeowners prefer 6″and 8″ numbers for a balanced look with excellent visibility, while 10″ and 12″ numbers create a bold architectural statement.

Most homeowners install their house numbers horizontally, but vertical installation can work well depending on the space and mounting surface. Horizontal layouts are typically best for walls and wide spaces, while vertical layouts are often ideal for narrow areas such as posts or pillars. When choosing your layout, select a location that is clearly visible from the street so your address can be easily identified. If your siding runs horizontally, installing your numbers along one or two boards often creates the cleanest result. If your siding runs vertically, mounting the numbers vertically may look more natural and aligned with the surface. Every home is different, so consider the available space and mounting surface to determine which orientation will look best and remain easy to read from the street.

Our house numbers can be installed on most solid exterior surfaces. Installation simply requires drilling small holes for the mounting studs and applying adhesive in the holes to secure the numbers. Recommended Surfaces: Stucco Wood Brick Concrete Stone (as flat as possible) Hardie board / fiber cement siding Not Recommended: Vinyl siding Vinyl siding is flexible and sits away from the wall behind it, which makes it difficult to securely mount the studs and adhesive. If your home has vinyl siding, we recommend installing your numbers on a more rigid surface such as wood trim, a fence, a post, or another solid area with good visibility from the street.

Installing your Ferosa house numbers is simple. The numbers mount using threaded studs that insert into small drilled holes, which are secured with adhesive inside the holes. Every order includes clear step by step instructions with color photos to guide you through the process. Most homeowners can complete the installation with just a few basic tools in a short amount of time. Click the button below to view the full installation guide.

Only a few basic tools are required to install our address numbers. There's a good chance you already have everything you need. However if you're missing a tool or two, we're betting you've got a neighbour or friend that can lend you what you need. Here's the tool list: 1. TAPE MEASURE: To align your drilling template on the mounting surface. 2. LEVEL: To level your drilling template. 3. DRILL: To drill holes for the mounting studs. A hammer drill if drilling into masonry or stone. 4. 3/16 DRILL BIT: This is the size of hole that the mounting studs will fit into. A masonry bit will be required for drilling into concrete or brick. A diamond tipped drill bit may be required for some stone. 5. RUBBER MALLET (Optional): To gently tap the house numbers and studs into the mounting holes.

When choosing house numbers, it’s important to look beyond appearance and consider the materials, construction, and finish quality. Many numbers may look good at first glance, but the details determine how well they will perform and how long they will last outdoors. Here are several important things to consider when comparing house numbers: Material – Are the numbers made from plastic, layered materials, iron, or a premium metal such as aluminum? Thickness and construction – If the numbers are metal, are they thin, hollow castings, or solid metal with substantial thickness? Protective finish – Are the numbers painted or finished with a durable powder coating designed for exterior use? Backside finish – Are the numbers coated on the back as well as the front? Many products leave the backside unfinished. Mounting style – Do the numbers have visible screws on the front, or hidden mounting studs for a cleaner appearance? Stud construction – If hidden studs are used, are they glued in place or securely threaded into the numbers? Mounting hardware quality – Is the mounting hardware made from plastic, iron, stainless steel, or aluminum? In the next few questions, we explain why each of these factors plays an important role in the quality, durability, and appearance of your house numbers.

House numbers are commonly made from plastic, steel, or aluminum. The material used affects how the numbers look, how well they withstand outdoor conditions, and how long they will last. Below is a comparison of the most common materials used for exterior address numbers. Plastic Plastic house numbers are typically the lowest cost option and are often made from HDPE or similar plastics. Because plastic is inexpensive and easy to manufacture, these numbers are widely available. However, plastic numbers tend to have a lighter, less refined appearance. They can also fade in sunlight and may warp over time as temperatures change. Aluminum Composite (Alumapanel) Some numbers are made from aluminum composite panels, which consist of a plastic core sandwiched between thin aluminum layers. While stronger than standard plastic, the layered construction can sometimes be visible from the side, revealing the plastic core. Steel or Iron Steel or iron house numbers are strong and durable but require protective coatings to prevent corrosion. If the coating has been poorly applied or becomes scratched or damaged, exposed steel can rust over time when exposed to moisture and outdoor conditions. Solid Aluminum Solid aluminum is widely considered one of the best materials for exterior house numbers. Aluminum is lightweight, rigid, and naturally resistant to rust and corrosion. When combined with a high quality powder coated finish, aluminum house numbers offer excellent durability and maintain their appearance for many years outdoors. HOW IMPORTANT IS THE THICKNESS OF METAL HOUSE NUMBERS? Thickness plays an important role in both the durability and appearance of metal house numbers. Some metal numbers are made from very thin material. While they may look similar in product photos, thin numbers can feel less substantial and may bend more easily. Thicker numbers provide greater rigidity and create a more solid, architectural look once installed. HOW FEROSA HOUSE NUMBERS ARE MADE Ferosa house numbers are precision machined from 3/8" thick solid aluminum and finished with durable architectural powder coatings designed for exterior use. This combination provides excellent durability, clean edges, and a substantial feel that complements modern and architectural homes.

The coating on house numbers plays an important role in their durability, appearance, and resistance to weather. While different coatings may look similar at first, their long term performance outdoors can vary significantly. Here are two important things to consider. 1. Type of Coating Most metal house numbers are finished with either paint or powder coating. Paint can vary widely in quality. Some painted finishes may look good initially but can chip, fade, or wear over time depending on the type of paint used. Powder coating is widely considered one of the most durable finishes available for exterior metal products. The coating is applied as a dry powder and then baked onto the metal, creating a strong, uniform finish that resists fading, moisture, and weather exposure for many years. 2. Are All Surfaces Coated? When comparing house numbers, it’s also important to check whether all sides of the numbers are coated, including the back. Some products are only finished on the front surface and sides, leaving the back unfinished. A complete coating on all surfaces helps protect the metal from moisture. Ferosa house numbers are finished with high quality architectural powder coatings applied to all sides of each number, ensuring a consistent appearance and long lasting protection.

The way house numbers are mounted affects both their appearance and long term durability. When comparing different products, there are several important things to consider. 1. Exposed Screws vs Hidden Mounting Hardware Many house numbers are often installed using screws driven through the front of the number. This method is simple and effective, but the screw heads remain visible on the face of the numbers. Many higher quality house numbers instead use hidden mounting studs attached to the back of the numbers. This allows the hardware to remain completely concealed, creating a cleaner and more refined appearance once installed. 2. How the Mounting Studs Are Secured For numbers that use hidden studs, it is important to consider how the studs are attached. Some products use studs that are glued into the numbers, which may loosen over time, and are more work to install. Higher quality numbers typically use threaded studs that are securely fastened into the metal, creating a stronger and more reliable connection. 3. Hardware Material The material used for mounting hardware is also important for long term durability. Plastic hardware can flex or become brittle with age. Steel or iron hardware can rust if exposed to moisture. In some cases, mixing different metals can also lead to corrosion over time. Using hardware made from compatible materials, such as aluminum with aluminum components, helps prevent corrosion and ensures longevity of the materials. 4. Spacers and the Floating Effect Many house numbers are designed to sit slightly away from the wall using spacers. This creates the popular floating appearance that produces subtle shadows and a more architectural look. Because spacers can be visible from certain angles, higher quality numbers use colour matched spacers so the hardware blends seamlessly with the numbers. How Ferosa Address Numbers Are Mounted Ferosa house numbers use hidden threaded aluminum studs and color matched spacers to create a clean floating appearance (optional) while maintaining strong, corrosion resistant mounting hardware.

Yes. A precise drilling template is essential for properly spacing and aligning your house numbers. Every Ferosa order includes two custom CAD designed drilling templates (horizontal and vertical orientations) created specifically for your address. The template is produced at 100% scale and shows exactly where to drill each hole for your chosen mounting orientation, whether horizontal or vertical. Each template is also properly kerned, meaning the spacing between numbers is carefully adjusted to ensure the entire address looks balanced and visually appealing once installed. Without a custom template designed for the full address, it can be difficult to space numbers evenly. Many products provide individual templates for each number, which can make alignment challenging and affect the final appearance. With Ferosa, your template is designed for your entire address, making installation easier and ensuring your numbers look clean, balanced, and professionally installed.
